<a.dyer> [forward-dated to the 17th]
I think the problem solved itself? You see, I think my timing was just bad. I kissed this guy who has been very carefully flirting with me. He had an incredibly thoughtful gift sent to me.
It was during that mess at the ski lodge. He was under the creature's control. I thought he was okay and I was so happy to see him.
I had to throw myself out a window to save myself and broke my arm.
[ Annie feels like she's being silly, but she has had such bad luck lately.
Maybe she should just swear off kissing. ]
<Archmage>
But I do not think that you should refrain from interacting with someone simply because of that one experience.
If that were the case I would no longer serve Lucius.
Regardless, I am happy to see you are well, Annie. :)
<a.dyer>
I threw myself out a window (briefly) and broke my arm after the young man I kissed almost hurt me.
I hope you didn't feel anything. The idea of you suffering is incredibly upsetting.
I'm "okay". A bit unsettled.
In more fun news? I was volunteered for a charity auction. I'm going through my closet to see what looks good for a black tie event. I have too many dark dresses. I might go get something in a dramatic green or red. If I have to go to something I might as well enjoy some part of it.
<Archmage>
Well, if you wish to get revenge, I support you.
Though I doubt anyone was in their right mind days ago.
As for the auction, I know of it, I signed Lucius up as well.
I think a green would look lovely on you Annie, especially since red seems to be the go-to look for most young women.
You would certainly stand out against the crowd.
<a.dyer>
He tried to warn me I think. I'm a little more annoyed I got hurt and ruined a nice outfit.
I think you're right. Plus my hair might look more like gold. Red may make it look washed out. Besides, red is more for a different holiday. February 14th is a fun holiday. Valentines.
You might find it a bit silly. The idea is its a day when people are encouraged to show their romantic partners a romantic display of affection. Usually a gift.
There was this man who was later called Saint Valentine. According to the stories he was eventually imprisoned for helping take care of people who faced religious persecution in the local big Empire's main capital. There was another man by the same name who was also executed for similar reasons? He was marrying people in secret in accordance to their faith.
(As a former human: humans are weird. )
Anyways! For some reason this one random holiday is a big cultural deal and people use it as an excuse to be adorable at each other.
<Archmage>
Is it only for the display of romantic love, or can you celebrate other types of love?
[He doesn't really have anyone he's romantic with
because he's in denial, so perhaps giving a gift to Annie will be something he looks into.]I do not know the symbolism used for love in your world.
On Vathea, celebrations of similar background were done through food. You would typically give a savory treat to those you held amorous feelings for, and they would respond to your feelings with the giving of a dessert.
Lynx jerky was a very common food to give.
But yes, humans are weird.
You should give a gift to that boy you kissed. Perhaps that will break the tension between you?
<a.dyer>
I've seen friends exchange things before. It's a way to let people know you care about them. I think it's sweet.
It kind of depends on the part of the world you're from? Where I'm from exchanging sweets or savory treats is a sign of affection. Chocolate is usually a heavily featured treat. Sometimes other gifts are exchanged too. One year my Dad had a seriously pretty necklace made for my Mom. She had a special sword made for him. He had been trying to get this very well-respected blade smith to accept a commission from him. Mom was able to talk the man into working on the project for her.
We also will doodle a kind of stylized heart on things. Kind of like: <3 Sometimes we incorporate hearts into the kinds of gifts we hand out? Usually it's decorative. Do not give people actual hearts. Lots of reds, whites, and pinks tend to be used too because they're tied to signs of passion, affection, and purity.
So. Hunt him down because he has a habit of hiding. Give him something sweet. That seems like the start of a plan.
<Archmage>
That was very sweet of your parents.
I have given swords and clothing as gifts typically, but I doubt people would want to keep receiving the same things. I will have to think of something new to gift.
Does "<3" mean a little drawn heart?
Oh, I see now. If I turn my head, it is sideways.
Your traditions are strange yet quaint, I always find myself smiling about them.
Will you be getting your friend some chocolates, then?
<a.dyer>
Yes exactly! :)
Maybe. He also is an artist so I thought about finding him some good brushes. You can never have enough supplies to work with. I used to like making pottery.
<Archmage>
I think he would greatly appreciate the supplies then, it shows that you are thinking about his needs and likes.
And I am positive you will find someone perfect for you Annie, you are quite the catch after all.
Did I ever tell you I used to practice music?
<a.dyer>
You didn't. What did you play? Or did you focus on vocals?
